Kimi AI Not Working? Common Fixes

Most problems with Kimi take a minute or two to fix. Start with the six quick steps. If Kimi still is not working, pick your problem from the list and follow the tips for it.

Getting in

The page is blank or will not load
  • Refresh the page first.
  • Some browsers and add-ons block parts of Kimi. Brave and some Firefox add-ons are known to cause this. Allow kimi.com, or switch to Chrome, Edge or Safari.
  • Clear the saved data for kimi.com in your browser settings, then reload.
  • Try a different network, such as your phone's mobile data, to rule out a block on your Wi-Fi.
  • On a work or school network, the site may be blocked. Ask your IT team.
I cannot sign in
  • Check you are on the real site, kimi.com. This guide site does not have a login.
  • If a code does not arrive, wait a minute before asking for another, and check your spam folder.
  • Use the same sign-in method you used when you created the account.
  • Check the date and time on your device are correct. Wrong settings can break sign-in codes.
  • Still stuck? Read the login guide and how to check the official website.
Is Kimi down for everyone?
  • Try Kimi on a second device, or on your phone's mobile data.
  • Ask a friend or colleague to try it.
  • Look at Kimi's official social accounts for a notice.
  • If it is a wider outage, nothing on your side will fix it. Wait and try later.

Speed, tasks and credits

Kimi is very slow or my task is stuck
  • Queues are common at peak times, mostly on weekdays during the day and evening.
  • Big jobs take time. A Deep Research report normally takes 10 to 25 minutes, and building a website takes several minutes.
  • If a task has not moved for more than 10 minutes, refresh the page. Your work is usually saved.
  • For Deep Research, do not press Stop. Let it finish.
  • Break a very large job into smaller requests.
It says I am out of credits, or a feature is locked
  • Agent tasks, Kimi K3, Slides, Websites and Deep Research use monthly credits. Normal chat with Kimi K2.6 does not.
  • Check your balance under Settings, then Subscription.
  • Credits reset each month. If a task failed, its credits are normally returned.
  • Some features need a higher plan. See what the free plan includes and Kimi pricing.

Answers and files

The answer stops halfway or gets cut off
  • Type "continue" and send it. Kimi usually picks up where it stopped.
  • Ask for the answer in parts, for example "give me sections 1 to 3 first".
  • Very long chats can run out of room. Start a new chat and paste in only what Kimi needs.
  • Check your connection. A dropped connection can cut an answer short.
The answer is wrong or out of date
  • Turn on web search, or ask Kimi to search the web, for anything recent.
  • Ask "What is your source for that?" and open the source yourself.
  • Give more detail in your question: dates, places, names and what you already know.
  • For important facts, check a second source. Any AI can make mistakes. See the beginner's tutorial for better prompts.
My file will not upload, or Kimi cannot read it
  • Check the size. Kimi's help pages say each file can be up to 100 MB.
  • Try again with a smaller file, or split a very long document into parts.
  • Scanned PDFs are pictures of text and are harder to read. A normal text PDF works best.
  • Remove any password from the file before you upload it.
  • If Kimi reads the file but misses things, ask about one section at a time. More help: how to summarize PDFs.

Tools and apps

A website I built shows a blank screen or the old version
  • Refresh the preview, then ask Kimi to save a new version.
  • Describe what you see, and add a screenshot. Kimi can usually fix the error itself.
  • If a change broke the site, restore an earlier version from the version cards in the chat.
  • After changes, press Update so the live site shows the new version.
  • If publishing fails, try again later. Your version is already saved. More help: build a website with Kimi.
Kimi Code will not start or keeps stopping
  • If you see "command not found", close the terminal, open a new one and try again.
  • Type /login again. Sign-in on a device expires if it is not used for 30 days.
  • On Windows, install Git for Windows first. Kimi Code needs it.
  • Kimi Code has a limit that resets every five hours and another that resets weekly. Type /usage to check, and wait for the reset if you hit one.
  • Check that your plan includes Kimi Code, then update with "kimi upgrade". More help: Kimi Code setup.
The app will not install or open
  • Windows needs Windows 10 or later.
  • The Mac app needs macOS 12 or later and an Apple chip. It does not run on older Intel Macs.
  • On a phone, update the app in your app store, then restart the phone.
  • Download only from kimi.com or your phone's official app store.
  • If you cannot install it, use kimi.com in your browser instead. It does the same job. More help: download guide.

FAQ

Kimi not working: quick answers

The most common causes are a stuck browser tab, a weak internet connection, a browser add-on that blocks part of the site, or heavy demand on Kimi's side. Refreshing the page, trying another browser and waiting a few minutes fix most cases.

This page cannot check Kimi's live status. Try Kimi on a second device or on mobile data. If it fails everywhere, look at Kimi's official social accounts for a notice and try again later.

Kimi can queue tasks at busy times, and big jobs such as Deep Research or building a website take minutes, not seconds. If nothing has moved for more than 10 minutes, refresh the page.

Check that you are on kimi.com, use the same sign-in method you used when you created the account, and wait a minute before asking for a new code. Look in your spam folder for the code email.
